This image  – a collage created with hundreds of paper pieces from torn and decomposed publicity posters (the title is from “Apocalypse” of John) – is displayed at Room #7 at Roberto Alborghetti Show (“Colors of an Apocalypse: An Intrigue for the Eyes and Mind from the Decomposed Publicity Posters”) which is taking place at Aldobrandesca Fortress (XIII Century) in Tuscany (Piancastagnaio, Siena, Italy); the show has been extended till January 15, 2013.

You find Room #7 in the highest place of the historic castle. It’s a sort of hidden space you have to discover at the end of your visit at the exhibition. In this cell are presented for the first time five particular colleages created by Roberto Alborghetti for his “Lacer/actions” Project…

My “Lacer/Actions” images against oil spill disasters: “And the sea waters rose and screamed all their fury”. This clip was created with my art pieces  - realistic and not manipulated images of torn and decomposed posters – and it supports Fuerteventura campaign against the central government’s decision (Spain) to allow oil exploration in Canary Islands (Biosphere Reserve). 

I been in the beautiful and wild Fuerteventura last june. And I approached its problem. Local people and associations are raising protests. Greenpeace told that the planned oil spill – located in deep waters, at 3000 meters – would required 500 boats to act immediately in order to contain it. Fuerteventura doesn’t have the structure to be able to defend itself immediately against such a disaster…   

Natalia Evora, Environment and Trasports Councillor in Fuerteventura, said to “Fuerteventura Magazine Hoy” : “First of all we must remember that in 21st Century we must speak of energies that do not pollute and we therefore think oil has become an obsolete industry… We must take into account the great damage and risks that this would create in our marine element, for biodiversity and for tourism…The Islands that are Biosphere Reserves, such as Fuerteventura, are creating another energy model and not one that is already being eliminated in many countries because of the problems it has created… An oil spill would immediately close the desalination plants that provide the water we consume”.

The next Roberto Alborghetti Lacer/actions Show (“Colors of an Apocalypse – An Intrigue for the  Eyes and Mind from Decomposed Publicity Posters“) will take place in a wonderful and impressive location: the Rocca Aldobrandesca – a XIII Century fortress in Tuscany (Siena, Italy) – from October 6 to November 5, 2012. The exhibition is one of the most awaited Italian events of Fall 2012 and has been organized by Piancastagnaio Municipality and Siena Territory Communities and Osa Onlus.

There is a great expectation for this event: simply browse the site – www.robertoalborghetti.wordpress.com/ -  where there’s a page about the exhibition. The title couldn’t be more hit for this exceptional exhibition sponsored by the Municipality and Osa. Roberto Alborghetti will show forty artworks that symbolically represent the meaning of his artistic research, based on observation and reproduction of  one of the several “apocalypses” of our times, namely the decomposed and torn publicity posters we see on walls and along the streets. 

Roberto Alborghetti looks inside this great Babel of decomposed colors and words degraded by time, environment and humans. He draws chromatic energy from trash images, giving new life and reason to what is considered (for the eyes and the urban landscape) a rejection or a disturbing element. The historic  Piancastagnaio fortress, evoking the passage of times, offers an ideal space to enhance the contrasting language of colors and shapes of Roberto Alborghetti compositions.

The “Lacer /actions” Show will be accompanied by forums, workshops and videoshows created by Alborghetti. The exhibition will also feature a limited-edition of a three silk scarves series which Roberto Alborghetti produced in collaboration with renowned textile designer Bruno Boggia who worked with the most famous international fashion designers.              

But let’s know something more about this fascinating fortress, one of the most impressive Medieval Italian castles, a perfect location for Roberto Alborghetti artpieces. Since the 11th century the area of southern Tuscany around the castle of Piancastagnaio was the object of the expansionist politics of the powerful feudal family of the Aldobrandeschi. The whole territory is rich in historical remains tied to these potentates. Between the possessions of the Aldobrandeschi, Piancastagnaio was almost always the site of allotted to the noble family from the monks of the Abbey of S.Salvatore since the beginning of the year 1000. Subsequently it was claimed from the Viscounts of Campiglia and during the 13th century it became object of ulterior disputes between the cities of Siena and Orvieto.

The Orvietani gained control of the powerful fortress in the 1303 and maintained it for around fifty years. At this point they entered in the quarrel with the heirs of the Aldobrandeschi, the Orsini of Pitigliano, to       oppose the new aims of the Senese Republic. Only between the years 1415 and 1430 Siena finally succeeded to taking possession of Piancastagnaio,       that was attached to the Capitanato of Radicofani. In 17th century the settlement became a Granducal fief and finally, with the Leopoldine reforms, the chief town of the the same community.

The country town has a circular form, once had surrounding wall enclosure with alternating square towers and four gates. The walls and the gates       have been almost entirely demolished, with the exception of few lines, three towers, two with semicircular shape and the other squared, the main       city Gate beside the Rocca and other three minor Gates in the southern front of the walls: ‘Porta Romana’, ‘Porticciola’ e ‘Porta di Voltaia’.

In the highest point of the inhabited area rises still today the mighty Rocca Aldobrandesca. The construction has a square form and is endowed with tall and strongly inclined walls. From the enclosure rises two towers , the greatest, either as thickest, had functions of keep, the other, in the opposite angle,       defended the underlying gate of access to the city.

The whole complex was endowed with machicoulis and battlement, still today almost intact. The Rocca is under good condition thanks to careful work of  restoration.

SIGNS FROM NOWHERE: WELCOME TO CITIES OF GHOSTS…

Some years ago someone told me that my “Lacer/actions” artworks – images of torn poster and urban signs – are a sort of evolutional forms by which some unidentified and indefinite entities try to communicate with us… At first I smiled hearing this comment.

Now – after having “captured” strange and unusual images in thousands – I’m not so worried thinking about the idea that those abstruse and abstract signs taken from cities walls could be some intriguing dimension of perception (or a new form of communication from Nowhere…)

So, let ‘s have a look (without prejudices or mental barriers) to this slideshow… They are realistic images, not manipulated or digitally enhanced. I captured them on the cities walls around the world. And welcome to my Cities of Signs: Cities of Ghosts, Cities of Lacer/actions…

P.S. During this week I’ll be on travel through Holland and Italy. So I take a break in bloggin’, but not in capturing… ghosts traces on the cities walls.

A special preview about the Official poster created for the next Roberto Alborghetti Lacer/actions Show. The exhibition will take place in an enchanting and wonderful location: a XIII Century fortress in the heart of Tuscany (Italy). It’s already announced as one of the most awaited events of 2012.

The Italian Weekly Magazine “Il Punto”, in his last issue ( March 2, 2012) dedicates text and pic to Roberto Alborghetti ‘s Limited Edition Silk Scarves from his “Lacer/actions” Art Project  about images of torn posters and urban signs. The article – introduced by “Lacer/actions at your neck” headline – is edited by journalist Roberta Maresci for the Fashion section of the review.  

Roberta Maresci writes: “A silk scarf to remember the Fallen of Nine Eleven, although his most famous art images come from trash of the cities walls. Glamorous accessories are borning from waste dirty, ripped, torn and worn paper. It is called “Lacer/actions” the project by which Roberto Alborghetti turns trash into an art subject, or at least into an watchable product as a textile design. It’s an unique experimentation which has become reality thanks to Bruno Boggia who in his Studio in Como for over sixty years has been working on textiles design and with the most famous designers in the world (as Capucci, Lacroix, Valentino, Lancetti, Mila Schön, Chanel, Celine, Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Etro, Escada, Donna Karan Paul Smith, Rolando Santana).

“THE ASTONISHING DIMENSION OF DECOMPOSITION”: ITALIAN REVIEW “ISOLA 21″ REPORTS ON ROBERTO ALBORGHETTI LACER/ACTIONS ART

 The Italian magazine “Isola 21”, in its last issue, has dedicated one full page to Roberto Alborghetti “Lacer/actions” Art. The article is signed by journalist Laura Di Teodoro who reports about Roberto visual research devoted to torn posters and urban signs. During his interview, the Italian artist talks how and when he began to collect the incredible images of ripped ads he finds on the cities walls around the world. Laura Di Teodoro writes: “Roberto Alborghetti Art is essentially based on the observation of all what passes under our eyes… Sometimes we risk not to see the colors that surround us – Alborghetti points out -. If we try to stop for some seconds maybe we have the way to discover that even some paper wastes can give unrivalled chromaticisms… Paper doesn’t dye; the more it is decomposed, the more it is astonishing”.

Laura Di Teodoro writes: “In fact – as Roberto Alborghetti says – we find difficulties to think that behind faded and torn messages there may still be “something” to be seen or discovered. But these lacerated images – from this term comes the “Lacer/actions” brand – continue to be a mirror of the talking city. They are the post-communicating findings of a product, an event, a performing idea… In the lacerated advertisings is recognizable the unwrapped city, self-destroying in the messages, self-regenerating and self-reproducing in new visual elements, often contradictory, dissonant, discordant, but still surprisingly vital.”  

“Isola 21” (“Island 21”, from the name of a territory in Milan area) is a full-color review edited by journalist and author Giuseppe Zois.
