IT’S TIME FOR “CB”, COLLEGE BATTLE OF THE BANDS!

For the past 3 years, College Battle (“CB”) has grown organically in the college market with the creation of an unprecedented music and entertainment platform.  This includes the national College Battle of the Bands competition which has awarded over $250K in prizing to top student musicians to date, and the Textbooks & Tickets Tour (“T&T”) produced with Chegg, the only free concert series exclusively for college students featuring artists such as T-Pain, Avicii, Big Boi of OutKast, Dev, Chiddy Bang, MNDR, Big Sean and many more.  The company’s year round activity provides a unique solution to the college entertainment vertical by reaching one of the most influential portions of the youth media market and economy which represents over $60 billion of spending capitol annually.

Over the course of 2011, CB visited more than 43 campuses to reach a student population of over 1.25M and garner 10M+ impressions online. Additionally, thousands of student musicians competed in the national College Battle of the Bands competition with the national finalists getting an opening slot on a T&T show.

2012 plans include an expanded College Battle of the Bands competition (now simply known as College Battle) this spring and summer and the largest T&T Tour launch to date in August to reach over 20M college impressions, with intimate brand integration offered to sponsors and partners throughout.

College Battle is the brainchild of young music entrepreneurs Evan Shapiro and KamranV, along with Dan Costa of Campus MovieFest.  In 2007 they decided to put their passion for music and business to the test and create a college brand which not only has gone on to exceed any projections in the way of attendance and sheer numbers, but has become the catalyst for other brand extensions to a unique demographic with tons of spending power – the college student.

With the industry continuing to evolve and the world of new media heightening the opportunities for immediate satisfaction, they both knew that they had a chance to create a powerful brand.  Given the age of information exchange and collective experiences, they were convinced that they could create a leading college music brand while also discovering new  innovative talent that could otherwise go unnoticed in the crowded world of digital downloads, music promotion and emerging artist opportunities.  It was then that College Battle began to form into what is now a national tour and music competition with major sponsors.  In only a few short years they have succeeded in securing such high level partners as Chegg, GRAMMY U®, T-Mobile and others and have filled venues and college campuses around the country in what has became an unprecedented and energetic brand concept that continues to grow exponentially each year.  The College Battle competition is at the forefront of artist discovery and responsible for helping to discover popular acts that go on to secure recording contracts such as Mike Posner (Duke), Local Natives (Pepperdine) and Rozzi Crane (USC) who was just signed by Adam Levine of Maroon 5 fame and now featured on the current Hunger Games soundtrack.

This spring, College Battle launches its fourth year of competition in April.  The 2012 events bring an exciting new regional format with intimate brand integrations, a projection of 300K unique college voters and thousands of music artist participants as well as celebrity judges and a national public relations firm focusing on national exposure for the company.

Brands are constantly trying to find new ways to market to this key demographic but they usually loose sight of the new current trends and have a hard time staying ahead of the curve.    College Battle took one of the strongest cultural identifiers to college students – music – and are making it a lifestyle brand.  Through the current music market, CB has successfully found a way to stay ahead of the curve and market to college students in an organic and comfortable way and effectively give them something they can’t live without – their favorite music and an unforgettable college experience where they connect with artists themselves and other like-minded students. College Battle is the perfect strategy for the college entertainment vertical and is consistently finding new ways to provide meaningful event experiences for brands, students and artists alike.

In 2012, College Battle hits the road once again to make its mark in 40+ college markets across the United States.  Having renewed agreements with major sponsors Chegg and GRAMMY U, College Battle and the Textbooks & Tickets Tour will launch the new season with a special edition Textbooks & Tickets Tour date in Hamilton, NY with a one-of-a-kind performance by college-favorite artist Avicii on 4/20.  College Battle and Textbooks & Tickets events follow in all major markets throughout 2012, including the company’s first ever fashion and runway show integrations into select music events.

Additional 2012 partnerships are being added.  Partners will reap the rewards of unique interactive on-campus and event experiences with college students who will aim to become natural ambassadors for the brand. In a world where money is tight, marketing is crowded and demographics are split, the high energy music enthusiasts at College Battle have created a brand which has now stood the test of time and has the history to continue to prove itself as one of  the key college brands in the nation.

AN “ART INSTALLATION” THAT AMSTERDAM DOESN’T KNOW TO HAVE… SO, LET’S BRING BACK OUR EYES ON THE STREETS…

This is the incredible big container where I took my images from (see my previous post:“4GOT10 TEARS” ON THE CONTAINER NEAR THE ROYAL PALACE )

It was located in Amsterdam centre – near the Royal Palace, in the very heart of the city – outside a building yard. Workers were putting in it every sort of materials. And passers-by didn’t noticed it at all… On a side of the big container I saw something… spectacular. A sort of “public art installation” that Amsterdam doesn’t know to have.

The four parts in which the container was divided showed four incredible scenes. They were a sort of thin paper films left when someone had taken away the posters. An unusual and compelling combination – white paper film, iron, rust, red, grey and green colors of the container – originated something great for my eyes.

On request, I’m glad to present another selection of the images I took around the big container. All my “Lacer/actions” artworks are realistic, natural and not manipulated images.  So, enjoy them. Yes, they are pure street art. And we have to bring back our eyes on the streets, where we may find compelling open air galleries…

ABOUT ROBERTO ALBORGHETTI’S LACER/ACTIONS ART

LaceR/Actions”is a multidisciplinary project and research about urban signs and landscapes, especially concerning the apparent chaos of ripped papers from billboards and advertisings diplays. I have so far collected more than 35.000 images. Impressed by photocamera and transferred on canvas, reproduced on lithographs or textiles (as pure silk), or scanned in a video clip, the details of torn posters give new life to paper lacerations. I think in the lacerated advertisings is recognizable the “unwrapped” city, self-destroying in the messages, self-regenerating and self-reproducing in new visual elements, often contradictory, dissonant, discordant, but still surprisingly vital.

Some “Lacer/Actions” artworks were published in a booklet-portfolio: Pics of torn (publi)city”.  In July 2010, thirty thousand people visited my show “The Four Elements of LaceR/Actions” during the three days exhibition at Oriocenter (Milano Bergamo Orio Airport, Italy).Myartworks are also taking part of experiences about sensorial and emotional perceptions (sinestesys) concerning kinesiologic tests. In October 2010 I participated to “Parallax AF” in London (La Galleria, Royal Opera Arcade). One of my artwork will be kept at the new Contemporary Art Museum will open next September in Marche region (Italy). The next big Lacer/actions Show will take place in the enchanting XIII Century Rocca Aldobrandesca, an incredibile fortress in Tuscany (Monte Amiata, Piancastagnaio, Siena, Italy) from September 27 to November 4, 2012. An “The End of The World” event…

THE SCIENCE EXPLAINS THE LAW OF ATTRACTION: INTERVIEW WITH PSYCHIATRIST AND AUTHOR DR. SRINI PILLAY

INTERVIEW: ROBERTO ALBORGHETTI

In his recent workbook “The Science behind the Law of AttractionDr. Srini Pillay draws on his experience as a Harvard psychiatrist and brain-imaging researcher. He describes seven scientific laws that explain how “The Law of Attraction” works. Whether the goal is weight loss, a romantic relationship, financial success or happiness, Dr. Pillay explains how we can draw on brain science to make sense of “The Law of Attraction.”

Drawing on extensive experience as a clinician and an executive coach, the author walks us through the scientific basis of each of the seven scientific laws of attraction rooted in brain science. In addition, he then provides the solutions and invites the reader to complete exercises targeted to specific brain-processes that bring us closer to realizing our dreams.

I had the honor to interview Dr. Pillay. I contacted him via Internet. I sent him the questions. I never doubted about his reply (it often happens that the interviewers are afraid about that…) And I had the answers, in perfect syntony of the same “Law of attraction”… and my desire too. Telling about his book, Dr. Srini Pillay says : “I saw this as an opportunity to add to the message that you can attract things into your life: with the provisor that you use your brain effectively and efficiently.”

– Dr.Srini Pillay, “The Science behind the Law of Attraction” is one of your recent books. Have you moved by a particular aim or reason to writin’it?

Throughout my life, my work has been about helping people deal with their suffering. So much of suffering came from unfulfilled desires, and when the law of attraction was expressed through books such as “The Secret”, I found that many people believed it, but were unable to manifest it. I recognized that the message that was out there may not have described how to use one’s brain to make the law of attraction work for people, and given my background, I saw this as an opportunity to add to the message that you can attract things into your life: with the provisor that you use your brain effectively and efficiently.

– Which is today the obstacle, or the problem, that prevents people to follow the “Law of Attraction”?

I think that there are several obstacles: firstly, people often feel like they just have to think about what they want and they will get it. But this does not happen. They have to think in a specific way and in ways that the brain can compute. For example, if you say: “I must remember not to spend too much money when I go out shopping”, under stress, the brain actually does not hear the “not” and will do the opposite of what you want. Tapping into the law of attraction takes a certain effort to “tune” your brain into the correct frequencies – it is a little like tuning your brain to the radio station of your desire so that it will come to you. Avoiding effort is a problem.

– Do you think that – in the “Law of Attraction” dynamics – the more we desire the more we get (the goals)?

I don’t think it is just about desire but more about how we interact with our desire. In fact constantly desiring often separates you from what you want and you never get it. For example, if you say: “I want money” or ‘I want a lover”, you are essentially telling the world (and your brain) that you are separate from what you want. However, if you say “I am rich”, you think like a rich person and become rich and if you say “I am a lover’ you behave like a lover so that a lover will join you. The clarity of our visualization does matter though, so in this sense, your desire needs to be well worked out so that your brain can map a path toward it.

– Which is the role of emotions in the “Law of Attraction”?

Emotions are critical in “the law of attraction.” They are essentially information that tells your brain how much you want or do not want something. Without them, your brain lacks the motivation to map out a path toward your goals.

– Have you a concrete suggestion/invite to try out, in a …few seconds, that this Law really works for everyone?

No. The difference between this book and what people often think is that the law of attraction only works with practice. Only for a few people who are already well practiced will it work in seconds. However, the book describes exercises that you can start to start making the law work for you. E.g. Talk to your brain in positives. Instead of saying what you will not do or want, say what you will do or want.

– Dr. Pillay, tell me one of the most important reasons why people should have to read this book.

I think that this book will provide the science behind the law of attraction. While it honors spirituality, it allows people to lean on the science for understanding. The main reason would be even one law that might inspire people to change their lives for the better.

– I love, in my artworks, to play and work with colors. For you, is there a color to identify “the Law of Attraction”? I mean: is there a favorite color to let this Law flows?

I think that we not know this answer scientifically. We do know things such as the fact that soccer teams who wear red jerseys are more likely to win their games, but in general, I think it is more about the match between the color and the person, as well as the task. Thus, I would say that the law flows most when the colors that you imagine or use authentically represent what is happening.

“4GOT10 TEARS” ON THE CONTAINER NEAR THE ROYAL PALACE / THE AMSTERDAM’S LACER/ACTIONS FILES #3

I catch my “Lacer/actions” – Images Of Torn (publi)City – in the most strange places of the world. But what I saw a few weeks ago, in Amsterdam city centre, is really unique. Location: near the Royal Palace, in the very heart of the city. Outside a building yard, there was a big iron container in which workers were putting every sort of materials. I think people didn’t noticed it at all… But on a side of the big container I saw something spectacular ( for me and for my research about torn posters and urban signs).

They were a sort of thin paper films left when someone had taken away the posters. An unusual and compelling combination – white paper film, iron, rust, red, grey and green colors of the container – originated something great for my eyes. I worked a lot with my cameras and I also did a video with my mobile, documenting an exceptional situation.

So, I’m glad to present here a very little selection of the images I took around the big container, the “Art Container”. This is the third photo gallery about my “Amsterdam’s Lacer/actions Files” dedicated to a three images series I “captured” in Netherlands during a recent trip. I like to repeat that all my “Lacer/actions” artworks are realistic, natural and not manipulated images.  So, enjoy my “Amsterdam’s Lacer/actions Files #3”, that I titled “4got10 tears”. Public art on a public place, in the shade of Royal Palace…

WHERE ARE YOU? FIND YOURSELF IN THE LACER/ACTIONS UNIVERSE…

This is one of my recent Lacer/actions artworks, Images of Torn (publi)City”. Someone could define it as an expression of dripping techniques. Someone (again) could tell me that it is so similar to some contemporary art  paintings… Abstract paintings.   I only say that the image is absolutely natural, spontaneous and realistic… as all the others (more than 37.000…) I have been catching so far. So, find yourself in the Lacer/actions Universe… and guess where I took the image  from…

BEEN SPOTTED? GET NOTICED – THE CHEETAH WAY

By Michelle LaBrosse, PMP®, Chief Cheetah and Founder of Cheetah Learning, and Kristen LaBrosse, CAPM®, Co-Author

READ ALL ABOUT IT!

Globally recognized credential earned through Cheetah Learning. [Insert your name here], Project Manager Earns Project Management Professional Certification.

Imagine your name on the front page of the paper. What are you famous for? Is it for your excellent fashion sense? Your weather forecasting abilities? Or, perhaps you’re being honored for your ability to change the world for the better with your savvy project management skills and finesse?

As a project manager, you hold a great deal of responsibility and power, which becomes the case even more so when you earn your PMP® certification. The biggest challenge for many project managers is in letting others know what you are capable of, and what you are worth. Let’s face it – it’s not always easy to toot your own horn. But when you tackle your PM fame as you would any project—in an objective, systematic, and measurable way—you are sure to succeed in showing your stuff to ensure that you are spotted and get noticed- the Cheetah way.

Consider a Press ReleasePress releases don’t have to be just for large corporations or for the rich and famous. You, too, can get a press release out about the fantastic accomplishments that you’ve made in your life. Nowadays, roughly 45% of employers are going online to research potential employees as part of the screening process. You can strengthen your brand with a press release proclaiming your accomplishments. If you’re a Cheetah PMP®, contact us (marketing@cheetahlearning.com) to find out how you can get a press release created specifically for you and distributed for free.

Get Out There. You can’t always plan for the next big thing. Sometimes it comes down to being at the right place at the right time, with just the right mix of opportunity and preparation. But if you don’t take a chance and put yourself out there, you have taken yourself out of the game altogether.

Now, I know these suggestions sound eerily like dating advice for singles. But these rules also apply for professionals looking to make meaningful business connections. The more proactive you are in getting involved in organizations (such as PMI chapters, or volunteering your PM skills where needed in your community) the more visibility you have within the project management industry, and the more successful you will be.

Create a “Brag Sheet”.  Many times when we finish a project, we can rush through the closing process and lessons learned so quickly in preparation to dive into the next project. At the end of each project, take some time to add to your “Brag Sheet”. What went well in the project? Where you under budget or ahead of schedule? How did the deliverables of the project benefit the key stakeholders? This is something that you need to document for yourself, as most likely no on else is keeping track of your successes. Collecting your achievements so that you are prepared to shine when the opportunity presents itself.

Got It? Flaunt It! If you have your Project Management Professional (PMP®) credential, congratulations! As a PMP, you will get noticed worldwide as someone who is fluent in the language of PM and who is reliable in consistently achieving project success. There is a very good reason why the federal government mandated the need for Certified Project Managers to manage federally funded projects – PMP’s are proven and trustworthy.

Make it your goal this summer to get spotted for all of your hard work. Be your own best friend and promote your accomplishments, just as you would if you were trying to help another succeed in their career.  Make sure your accomplishments are visible to others so that they can “Read All About It”!
