The Guide to the Historical Places of Italy, published by the Historical Places of Italy Association and now in its thirty-sixth edition, is the only one of its kind, and it is reviewed by the Italian press along with the most important national guides.
Now with nine new establishments and many entries revised to include new historical facts, this edition presents two hundred and thirty-six of the oldest and most prestigious hotels, restaurants, trattorie, pastry-shops, confectioners’, grapperie, and literary cafés. Establishments that have made the history of Italy and that still preserve their interiors, atmospheres, furnishings, and mementos, along with delicious products of surpassing appeal.
This year the Guide is paying particular tribute to the longest lineages of families, who have been at the helm of historic establishments in Italy for five, six and even seven generations. An extraordinary feat in a world that is increasingly rapidly erasing its own past. The reader will find all of them listed in the “Most Family-Run” section.
With line drawings in true nineteenth-century style created by the painter Gianni Renna, and directed by journalist Claudio Guagnini, the Guide is published in English and Italian and is over 250 pages long. It comes out in February and copies are available free of charge at the Association headquarters and from Association members. If you wish to receive a copy by post, at no more than the cost of shipping, please contact the secretary’s office of the Association: firstname.lastname@example.org . The entire Guide, each page of which is devoted to a single establishment, can also be consulted on the official site: www.localistorici.it
