Marie DeerHeart (USA) writes from a rich text based in theater, art, and design training. Also rooted from the soil of personal experience, Marie, known to blog readers as ~Meredith, writes about mental health and its challenges; her value of developing creative pursuits as part of the equation for living a satisfying life in the face of mental illness and recovery include yoga, dance, writing, and photography.

ABOUT ROBERTO ALBORGHETTI

Roberto Alborghetti Artslant Portfolio

Roberto Alborghetti (Milan area, Italy) is journalist, author and visual artist. His “LaceR/Actions” is a multidisciplinary project about the apparent chaos of decomposed posters, cracks, scratches and urban/street signs. He has been collected so far about 50.000 images then transferred on canvases, lithographic prints or textiles (as pure silk) or re-built on collages and scanned in videoclips, giving new expressions to matter decomposition.

His “Colors of an Apocalypse” Show took place for 100 days in the XIII Century Aldobrandesca Fortress in Tuscany (Piancastagnaio, Siena, Italy) from October 6, 2012, to January 15, 2013. His most recent projects are:  “Contemplations and Lacer/actions” (album, videoclip and installations inspired by Thomas of Bergamo Scripts, 1563-1631), “Atelier of Colors and Emotions” (which involved autistic kids, 2013 and 2014 ), “Lacer/actions on Aluminium” (11 installations for Fai Private Collection, Italy). Roberto Alborghetti artworks are part of Contemporary Art Collection (Mercatello sul Metauro, Marche, Italy) and participating to “An Exhibition, a Restoration” in Norcia (Umbria, Italy) from July 12 to September 7, 2014.

AUTISM AND ART / AN EXHIBITION ABOUT THE EXPERIENCE INSPIRED BY “LACER/ACTIONS” WORKS… “SEEIN’ WHAT HUMAN BEINGS FREQUENTLY DON’T SEE”

In last Springtime, Roberto Alborghetti works have been the focus of “Atelier of colors and emotions” project which involved in Italy (Aprilia, Latina) children with disabilities and affected by Autism Spectrum Syndrome. The activity was promoted and led by teacher Patrizia Sapri and non-profit organization “Il Senso della vita Onlus”. The experience based on Roberto images which have been reproduced manually by children. The project merged into a final exhibition tooking place some weeks ago in Tuscany (Piancastagnaio, Siena) with the title  “From Lacer/actions to Cre/actions”.

Kids worked for months on Roberto Alborghetti images, called “Lacer/actions, making some incredible works. The  exhibition in Tuscany raised lot of interest and attention comparing photographic copies of the original images by Roberto Alborghetti and the works performed by the pupils (watercolours, tempera and various materials). During the show teacher Patrizia Sapri told visitors about this unusual experience and how guys found a way to express emotions and creativity through colours and abstract from Roberto Alborghetti artworks.

The “provocative pictures” about torn and decomposed publicity posters and cracks were de-constructed and re-created by autistic kids who entered the visual world of Roberto Alborghetti receiving suggestions and emotions and re-viewing images through the sense-organs. They discovered an inner dimension to explore and learn. Music accompanied the lessons and students also created words and comments about feelings and sensations they felt while working on Roberto Alborghetti colorful works. 

Teacher Patrizia Sapri said: “The exhibition displayed works made by autistic students. I studied in the past, and rediscovered in recent days, the great lesson coming from Temple Grandin, doctor and professor at Colorado State University (USA), bestselling author and autistic activist (in 2010 she was listed in the Time 100 list of the 100 most influential people in the world, for the “Heroes” category). She said that autistics are able to see what human beings frequently don’t see. They see a “wonderful world” that people barely grasps. They perceive a series of visual stimuli that normal people can’t perceive. Autistics think in pictures. They live in a world of pictures and colors. That’s the reason why autistic kids are so fond of Roberto Alborghetti’s works which were re-created and re-lived using different tools and techniques. Based on their state of mind, they angrily painted or gently covered all spaces. In their mental order everything have to be perfect. And they have the wonderful gift to clearly see and perceive in advance – in their mind and heart – the final work.”

Tobacco lacerates (and detroys) our lives. I wanted to express this concept working on lacerated and destroyed waste-paper from torn and decomposed publicity posters I usually find along the streets. So, for my “Lacer/actions” project, I’ve created this collage using about 150 little paper pieces of worn-out and ripped outdoor advertisings. De-struction (and de-construction) to communicate how those dark and disqueting clouds of smoke intoxicate and ruin body and soul, degenerating cerebral system. I worked on an abstract scene coming from exhausted materials to say that smoke, ash and tar are here with us… The next apocalypse: no heaven or hell, only smoking or non-smoking.

Ho creato questo collage, per il mio progetto “Lacer/azioni”, utilizzando circa 150 pezzetti di carta stracciata. Il linguaggio di un materiale distrutto e de-strutturato per comunicare, in un’immagine astratta, come l’uso del tabacco intossichi corpo ed anima. Fumo, cenere e catrame: la prossima apocalisse…

On July 1, 2011, in the neighborhood of Karam Shami in Homs, Syria, a young man stands on the rooftop of a building. He uses his cell phone to document gunfire in the streets below as his camera suddenly catches sight of a gunman on an adjacent balcony. For a brief instant, the cameraman and the gunman directly face each other. A single shot is fired. The camera falls, and with the cameraman’s death, image and reality collapse into one.

In the course of recent political events, anonymous cameramen and women have emerged as powerful new figures in the politics of representation and mediation, documenting conditions that surround them while simultaneously carrying the biggest stakes in the telling of th eir story. They create images that do not necessarily show violence, but are visible manifestations of it; images that do not seek to create viewers, but witnesses.

Death of a Cameraman revolves around a powerful moment in which the making of an image becomes a matter of life and death, with the camera functioning both as an extension of the eye and as a weapon. The exhibition explores the power of images to influence reality and alter the course of events. Are cameras weapons? Can they penetrate reality? What’s at stake in the making of images? What does it mean to bear witness through them?

Martin Waldmeier is a curator from Basel, Switzerland, and currently a Ph.D. candidate in Visual Culture at Goldsmiths, University of London, writing a dissertation on translation as an artistic practice. Waldmeier was a Fulbright fellow in Visual and Critical Studies at the School of the Art Institute, Chicago, and received an MA in Modern and Contemporary Art History from the University of Bern. His current research interests include aesthetics of migration, images and narrations of conflict, cultural translations, and the politics of language in the present-day cultural industry.

The makers of the trailer: Pete&Tom are a London-based motion graphics studio creating bold and arresting content underpinned by a love of storytelling. Heston Blumenthal is entirely self-taught, and is the most progressive chef of his generation. In 2004 he won the coveted three Michelin stars in near-record time for his restaurant The Fat Duck. It has repeatedly been voted into the top ten of the World’s Best Restaurants by an international panel of 800 experts, as has his second restaurant Dinner by Heston Blumenthal. In 2006 he was awarded an OBE by Her Majesty The Queen for his services to British Gastronomy.

Dave McKean has illustrated and designed over 50 books by Heston Blumenthal, John Cale, Stephen King, Richard Dawkins, Ray Bradbury, Neil Gaiman amongst others. He has directed several short films and three features and has exhibited on three continents.

Cracks is part of Roberto Alborghetti ‘s Lacer/actions Project, about  the decomposition of torn publicity posters on outside advertisings (realistic and not manipulated images are transferred on canvases, lithographic prints and textiles or re-built on collages). Since 2009 Roberto Alborghetti has been also workin’ on metal, plastic or stony surfaces and platings. So, he entered the wonderful world of Cracks… We are surrounded by Cracks… We live in a planet of Cracks. And Cracks may be considered as a life’s metaphor and “an active aesthetical appreciation” of what we call the disturbing elements of imperfection.

Roberto Alborghetti discovered  through cracks magnifications other astonishing and interesting textures in what people usually consider waste materials. Lacer/actions and Cracks are realistic, natural, random and not manipulated or enhanced images.
