THE “GHOST BUS PROJECT” IN GIF: COLORS FROM A VINTAGE VEHICLE (NOTTINGHAM, UK)

theghostbusgif

Can you believe that this art is from an old bus?“… The few pictures you see in this gif are not paintings, but simply photos I took in Beeston, Nottingham (UK) around an old bus at the garage of Bartons family. They are part of “The Ghost Bus Project” that I have brought forward in collaboration with Bartons Plc and its owner Simon Barton, ACT Group (Art-Culture-Tourism) and its founder Marysia Zipser. It all started in October 2014 when Marysia Zipser took me to  Bartons huge garage of vintage buses and cars.

I was really impressed by one of the oldest buses,  the so called “The Ghost Bus”, a piece of history of English public transport: it’s a URR 865 vehicle AEC Reliance made in 1956! Simon Barton told me that a vehicle-sister of the   “ghost bus” was documented in 1959 on a wonderful and unmissable film telling a beautiful journey through Italy by a group of English ladies and gentlemen. It was another great reason to establish a collaboration building a bridge  between the Land of Robin Hood and Italy…

So, I began to work and create on the “ghost bus” for my “Lacer/actions” project concerning realistic images of decomposed publicity posters, natural cracks and scratches, urban and industrial tokens and materials. The project consisted of two short movies for public performances and video shows, a cards series (reproducing 16 artworks selected from the 109 ones that has been created) and special events that took place in Beston, Chilwell, Nottingham and in Tuscany (Mount Amiata, Siena).

WONDERFUL NIGHT IN BEESTON NOTTINGHAM (UK) FOR THE PREMIÈRE OF “LAND ROVER MAPPING” SHORT FILM

Rust and Dust: The Secret Life of a Land Rover

Guest Writer: CHRISTOPHER FROST, Journalist and Photographer

A little bit of Italy came to Beeston tonight in the form of author and artist Roberto Alborghetti, who was in town for the world premiere of his latest mini movie called ‘Land Rover Mapping’. And like his last film ‘The Ghost Bus’, it features one of Barton’s vintage vehicles.

It was screened at the Chilwell Arts Centre, in front of an appreciative audience, including the Sheriff of Nottingham, the Mayor of Broxtowe and the Bishop of Nottingham. Also in attendance was celebrity butcher Johnny Pusztai, and several members of the Barton family. The event had been organised by Marysia Zipser of Beeston’s ACT (Art, Culture, Tourism) organisation.

Six short films were screened altogether, including the original Ghost Bus film, which had also received its world premiere in Beeston during February 2015 at the former Barton’s bus depot. This event also included seeing the actual bus itself, which had been illuminated in a spooky fashion to extol its ghostlike appearance, as it had lain rotting away in a farmer’s field in Suffolk for some 20+ years.

‘Land Rover Mapping’ is a 14-minute film, which continues the theme of macro photography; showing up the rust, scratches and imperfections of the vehicle that was built in 1955 and has been owned by the Barton family for at least forty years.

Roberto is just on a flying visit to Beeston, as he returns to Italy on Saturday, to continue with the launch of his latest book about Pope Francis.
