ART NOUVEAU “LIBERTY” STYLE IN THE NEW “GUIDE TO THE HISTORICAL PLACES OF ITALY”: THE MOST PRESTIGIOUS HOTELS, RESTAURANTS, TRATTORIE, CAFE’ AND GRAPPA STORES

The Guide to the Historical Places of Italy, published by the Association, is the only one of its kind, and it is reviewed by the Italian press along with the most important national guides.

This year the Guide takes us on a tour of the over seventy historical establishments of Italy which bear witness to the Italian Art Nouveau “Liberty” style.

Seven new establishments now enhance this thirty-seventh edition, almost half of which has been rewritten and expanded. For the first time we also have a place in the open air: the famous “Piazzetta” of the seaside village of Portofino, which – like a grand hotel, café or restaurant by the sea – has been a salon of culture and high society since the early twentieth century.

Devoted to those who enjoy cultural tourism, the Guide presents the two hundred and forty oldest and most prestigious hotels, restaurants, trattorie, pastry-shops, confectioners’, and grappa stores, which have made the history of Italy in terms of their illustrious patrons and the events they have hosted. An exclusive journey to discover and enjoy the finest establishments, which maintain and hand down the delights of tradition, with architecture, memorabilia, furnishings and memories of great artistic, cultural and civic value.

With line drawings in true nineteenth-century style created by the painter Gianni Renna, and directed by journalist Claudio Guagnini, the Guide is published in English and Italian and is 280 pages long. Each page of the Guide is devoted to a single establishment.

Copies are available free of charge at the Association headquarters and from Association members. If you wish to receive a copy by post, at no more than the cost of shipping, please contact the secretary’s office of the Association using the form “Contact Us” at this web site:

THE 2012 GUIDE TO THE ARTISTIC AND HISTORICAL ITALIAN PLACES – 36TH EDITION (HOW TO GET A COPY BY POST AT NO MORE THAN THE COST OF SHIPPING)

The Guide to the Historical Places of Italy, published by the Historical Places of Italy Association and now in its thirty-sixth edition, is the only one of its kind, and it is reviewed by the Italian press along with the most important national guides.

Now with nine new establishments and many entries revised to include new historical facts, this edition presents two hundred and thirty-six of the oldest and most prestigious hotels, restaurants, trattorie, pastry-shops, confectioners’, grapperie, and literary cafés. Establishments that have made the history of Italy and that still preserve their interiors, atmospheres, furnishings, and mementos, along with delicious products of surpassing appeal.

This year the Guide is paying particular tribute to the longest lineages of families, who have been at the helm of historic establishments in Italy for five, six and even seven generations. An extraordinary feat in a world that is increasingly rapidly erasing its own past. The reader will find all of them listed in the “Most Family-Run” section.

With line drawings in true nineteenth-century style created by the painter Gianni Renna, and directed by journalist Claudio Guagnini, the Guide is published in English and Italian and is over 250 pages long. It comes out in February and copies are available free of charge at the Association headquarters and from Association members. If you wish to receive a copy by post, at no more than the cost of shipping, please contact the secretary’s office of the Association: info@localistorici.it .
