INTERVIEW: ROBERTO ALBORGHETTI

In his recent workbook “The Science behind the Law of AttractionDr. Srini Pillay draws on his experience as a Harvard psychiatrist and brain-imaging researcher. He describes seven scientific laws that explain how “The Law of Attraction” works. Whether the goal is weight loss, a romantic relationship, financial success or happiness, Dr. Pillay explains how we can draw on brain science to make sense of “The Law of Attraction.”

Drawing on extensive experience as a clinician and an executive coach, the author walks us through the scientific basis of each of the seven scientific laws of attraction rooted in brain science. In addition, he then provides the solutions and invites the reader to complete exercises targeted to specific brain-processes that bring us closer to realizing our dreams.

I had the honor to interview Dr. Pillay. I contacted him via Internet. I sent him the questions. I never doubted about his reply (it often happens that the interviewers are afraid about that…) And I had the answers, in perfect syntony of the same “Law of attraction”… and my desire too. Telling about his book, Dr. Srini Pillay says : “I saw this as an opportunity to add to the message that you can attract things into your life: with the provisor that you use your brain effectively and efficiently.”

– Dr.Srini Pillay, “The Science behind the Law of Attraction” is one of your recent books. Have you moved by a particular aim or reason to writin’it?

Throughout my life, my work has been about helping people deal with their suffering. So much of suffering came from unfulfilled desires, and when the law of attraction was expressed through books such as “The Secret”, I found that many people believed it, but were unable to manifest it. I recognized that the message that was out there may not have described how to use one’s brain to make the law of attraction work for people, and given my background, I saw this as an opportunity to add to the message that you can attract things into your life: with the provisor that you use your brain effectively and efficiently.

– Which is today the obstacle, or the problem, that prevents people to follow the “Law of Attraction”?

I think that there are several obstacles: firstly, people often feel like they just have to think about what they want and they will get it. But this does not happen. They have to think in a specific way and in ways that the brain can compute. For example, if you say: “I must remember not to spend too much money when I go out shopping”, under stress, the brain actually does not hear the “not” and will do the opposite of what you want. Tapping into the law of attraction takes a certain effort to “tune” your brain into the correct frequencies – it is a little like tuning your brain to the radio station of your desire so that it will come to you. Avoiding effort is a problem.

– Do you think that – in the “Law of Attraction” dynamics – the more we desire the more we get (the goals)?

I don’t think it is just about desire but more about how we interact with our desire. In fact constantly desiring often separates you from what you want and you never get it. For example, if you say: “I want money” or ‘I want a lover”, you are essentially telling the world (and your brain) that you are separate from what you want. However, if you say “I am rich”, you think like a rich person and become rich and if you say “I am a lover’ you behave like a lover so that a lover will join you. The clarity of our visualization does matter though, so in this sense, your desire needs to be well worked out so that your brain can map a path toward it.

– Which is the role of emotions in the “Law of Attraction”?

Emotions are critical in “the law of attraction.” They are essentially information that tells your brain how much you want or do not want something. Without them, your brain lacks the motivation to map out a path toward your goals.

– Have you a concrete suggestion/invite to try out, in a …few seconds, that this Law really works for everyone?

No. The difference between this book and what people often think is that the law of attraction only works with practice. Only for a few people who are already well practiced will it work in seconds. However, the book describes exercises that you can start to start making the law work for you. E.g. Talk to your brain in positives. Instead of saying what you will not do or want, say what you will do or want.

– Dr. Pillay, tell me one of the most important reasons why people should have to read this book.

I think that this book will provide the science behind the law of attraction. While it honors spirituality, it allows people to lean on the science for understanding. The main reason would be even one law that might inspire people to change their lives for the better.

– I love, in my artworks, to play and work with colors. For you, is there a color to identify “the Law of Attraction”? I mean: is there a favorite color to let this Law flows?

I think that we not know this answer scientifically. We do know things such as the fact that soccer teams who wear red jerseys are more likely to win their games, but in general, I think it is more about the match between the color and the person, as well as the task. Thus, I would say that the law flows most when the colors that you imagine or use authentically represent what is happening.

The evocative and deep thoughts expressed by Dr.Srini Pillay about my art in his article at “The Huffington Post”, suggested me to create a videoclip-fragment. LA SCIENZA DIETRO LA LEGGE DELL’ATTRAZIONE

 Il Dr. Srini Pillay, psichiatra di Harvard, executive couch, autore di best sellers sulla neuroscienza – in Italia è stato pubblicato “La calma in tasca”– racconta in questa intervista a Roberto Alborghetti il suo più recente “workbook”.


Nel suo più recente libro, intitolato “La scienza dietro la Legge dell’Attrazione”, il Dr. Srini Pillay attinge alla sua esperienza di psichiatra presso l’Università di Harvard e di ricercatore nel campo della brain-imaging. Egli descrive sette leggi scientifiche che spiegano come funziona “La Legge dell’Attrazione”. Se l’obiettivo è la perdita di peso, una relazione romantica, il successo finanziario o la felicità, il Dr. Pillay spiega come la neuroscienza sia di grande aiuto nel dare un senso alla “Legge dell’Attrazione”.

Basandosi su una vasta esperienza come clinico e di executive coach, nel suo libro l’autore ci guida attraverso le basi scientifiche di ciascuna delle sette leggi di attrazione così come sono radicate nella neuroscienza. Inoltre, egli fornisce soluzioni invitando il lettore a completare una serie di esercizi mirati al fine di attivare quei processi cerebrali che ci portano più vicini alla realizzare dei nostri sogni ed obiettivi.

Ho avuto l’onore di intervistare il Dr. Pillay. L’ho contattato via Internet. Gli ho mandato le domande. Non ho mai dubitato della sua risposta (accade infatti spesso che gli intervistatori, di fronte a determinati personaggi, temano di non essere esauditi). Ho avuto le sue risposte, in perfetta sintonia con i codici della stessa “legge dell’ attrazione” e… dei miei auspici e desiderata. Nel presentare il suo libro, il Dr. Srini Pillay dice di avere visto questa pubblicazione come un’opportunità per rafforzare il messaggio che davvero si possono attrarre le cose nella prapria vita. Ma con una clausola: occorre utilizzare il cervello in modo efficace ed efficiente.

– Dr. Srini Pillay, “La scienza dietro la Legge dell Attrazione” è uno dei suoi libri più recenti. È stato mosso da un motivo o da uno scopo particolare per scriverlo?

Per tutta la mia vita, il mio lavoro é consistito nell’aiutare le persone ad affrontare la propria sofferenza. La maggior parte della sofferenza é causata da desideri irrealizzati, e quando la legge dell’attrazione è stata espressa attraverso libri come “The Secret” ho scoperto che molta gente ci credeva, ma era incapace di metterlo in pratica. Ho realizzato che il messaggio che la gente recepiva avrebbe potuto essere non quello di descrivere come usare il cervello per rendere efficace la legge dell’attrazione, ma – dato il mio background – piuttosto quello di attrarre le cose nella propria vita: con la prerogativa di utilizzare il proprio cervello in modo efficace ed efficiente.

– Qual è oggi l’ostacolo, o il problema, che impedisce alle persone di seguire la “Legge dell’Attrazione”?

Ritengo che ci siano diversi ostacoli: in primo luogo, le persone spesso credono che basti pensare a quello che desiderano per ottenerlo. Ma questo non accade: bisogna pensare in modo specifico e in modi calcolabili dal cervello. Per esempio, se una persona dice a sé stessa: “Devo ricordarmi di non spendere troppi soldi quando vado a fare la spesa”, sotto stress, il suo cervello in realtà non recepisce il “non” e opera in modo contrario rispetto a ciò che la persona desidera. Attingendo alla legge dell’attrazione, si richiede un certo sforzo per “sintonizzare” il cervello su frequenze corrette; è un po’ come sintonizzare il proprio cervello sulla stazione radio del proprio desiderio in modo da realizzarlo. Evitare lo sforzo è un problema.

– Pensa che – nelle dinamiche della “Legge dell’Attrazione” – vale il principio che tuttò cio che più “desideriamo”, più lo otteniamo (nel senso che raggiungiamo gli obiettivi)?

Io non credo che si tratti solo di desiderio, ma piuttosto del nostro modo di interagire con il desiderio stesso. Infatti il desiderare costantemente qualcosa finisce spesso con il separare da ciò che si vuole. Per esempio, dicendo: “Voglio i soldi” o “Voglio un amante” si sta sostanzialmente dicendo al mondo (e al proprio cervello) che si è separati da ciò che si desidera. Tuttavia, dicendo “Io sono ricco” si pensa come una persona ricca e lo si diventa; dicendo “Io sono un amante” ci si comporta di conseguenza, permettendo ad una persona che ci ama di unirsi a noi. La chiarezza della visualizzazione importa nella misura in cui il nostro desiderio è ben individuato, per fare così in modo che il cervello possa mappare un percorso che porti verso l’obiettivo.

– Qual è il ruolo delle emozioni nella “Legge di Attrazione”?

Le emozioni sono fondamentali per “la legge dell’attrazione”. Esse sono essenzialmente informazioni che indicano al cervello quanto si desidera o non si desidera qualcosa. Senza di esse al cervello manca la motivazione per tracciare un percorso verso i suoi obiettivi.

– Ha un suggerimento concreto, da mettere in pratica in… pochi secondi, per affermare che questa legge funziona davvero per tutti?

No. La differenza tra questo libro, e quello che la stessa gente pensa, è che la legge dell’attrazione funzioni solo con la pratica. Solo per poche persone che ne hanno già una buona pratica, essa funzionerà in pochi secondi. Tuttavia, il libro descrive esercizi che si possono praticare per iniziare a far lavorare la legge per noi. Ad esempio: parlare al proprio cervello positivamente. Invece di dire quello che non si vuole fare o che non si desidera, dire ciò che si vuole o ciò che si farà.

– Dr. Pillay, mi dica una delle ragioni principali per cui la gente dovrebbe leggere questo libro

Penso che questo libro fornirà la prova che la scienza sta dietro la legge dell’attrazione. Mentre onora la spiritualità, permette alle persone di appoggiarsi alla scienza per conoscere. La ragione principale starebbe anche nel fatto di comprendere che una sola legge potrebbe ispirare le persone a cambiare in meglio la propria vita.

– Mi piace, nelle mie opere d’arte, giocare e lavorare con i colori. Dr. Pillay, esiste un colore che può identificarsi con “la Legge dell’Attrazione”? Voglio dire: c’è un colore preferito che possa far fluire questa legge?

Penso che non ci sia una risposta provata scientificamente. Sappiamo che le squadre di calcio che indossano maglie rosse hanno più probabilità di vincere le partite, ma in generale, penso che si tratti della corrispondenza tra il colore e la persona, e la stessa prova sul campo. Quindi, direi che la legge fluisce di più quando i colori che si immaginano, o si utilizzano, rappresentano in modo autentico ciò che sta accadendo.
