IT’S NOT A WORK BY ROTELLA OR VILLEGLE’, BUT AN ABSOLUTELY RANDOM BILLBOARD I SAW AND DOCUMENTED IN ROME FOR MY “LACER/ACTIONS” PROJECT…

© Roberto Alborghetti – LaceR-Actions

I think it’s  one of the finest ” lacer/actions ” I captured with my camera in the last few weeks. What you see is not a collage built and created deliberately with my hands, joining and sticking piece by piece, but a real, “natural” and completely collage. It’s  the result of various and different overlaps – which took place over weeks and months – of advertising publicity posters with different contents. I found this “masterpiece” of randomness in the center of Rome, near Piazza della Repubblica. A few hours later it has been deleted and covered by other paper advertisings.

It was a big billboard, sizes 2 meters x 2. I was lucky enough to catch and store it to my “Lacer/actions” archive which now counts about 60,000 images (all completely random) I fixed and collected around the world.

I think that this random work, as well as the thousands I have captured and documented so far , would really aroused the envy of Mimmo Rotella and  Jacques Villeglè… These artists worked advertising posters snatching them from the billboards. But I think that the true and genuine art – a sort of evolution of the same street art – consists instead of leaving the torn and decomposed publicity posters on the walls, making a really and natural fine show and transforming our cities in public and free outdoor “galleries”…

“A jar of rainwater” is part of my collaboration with musician, producer and poet Joshua Sellers, from West Memphis (Arkansas, USA). Fusing Joshua ‘s words with my images – realistic pics of torn and decomposed publicity posters, natural cracks, scratches and urban signs – , we created a series of haiga: a combination of  haiku and visual art.

Haiga is a style of Japanese painting based on the aesthetics of haikai, from which haiku poetry derives, which often accompanied such poems in a single piece. Like the poetic forms it accompanied, haiga was based on simple, yet often profound, observations of the everyday world. Stephen Addiss points out that “since they are both created with the same brush and ink, adding an image to a haiku poem was… a natural activity.”

Just as haiku often internally juxtapose two images, haiga may also contain a juxtaposition between the haiku itself and the art work. The art work does not necessarily directly represent the images presented in the haiku. Stylistically, haiga vary widely based on the preferences and training of the individual painter, but generally show influences of formal Kanō school painting, minimalist Zen painting, and Ōtsu-e, while sharing much of the aesthetic attitudes of the nanga tradition. Some were reproduced as woodblock prints. The subjects painted likewise vary widely, but are generally elements mentioned in the calligraphy, or poetic images which add meaning or depth to that expressed by the poem.

“WAVES OF COLORS” FROM DECOMPOSED PAPER ON OUTDOOR ADVERTISINGS

© ROBERTO ALBORGHETTI – LACER/ACTIONS, Realistic and not Manipulated Images of Torn and Decomposed Publicity Posters and Urban Signs

 *

These pictures come from a decomposed publicity poster I saw on outdoor advertisings in Lecco, a beautiful town on Lake Como (Italy). The incredible actions and re-actions made by time, weather and environmental conditions (rain, light, smog, humidity…) produced a capturing and harmonious mash-up of colors and shapes. The huge torn and decomposed poster displayed pre-existing images which were crushed and de-structured in thousands of particles which presented fascinating colored streams and waves dancing on a white background.

ABOUT MY “LACER/ACTIONS ART PROJECT”

“LaceR/Actions”is a multidisciplinary project and research about urban signs and landscapes, especially concerning the apparent chaos of ripped papers from billboards and advertisings diplays. I have collected so far more than 40.000 images. Impressed by photocamera and transferred on canvases, reproduced on lithographic prints or textiles (as pure silk), re-built in collages or scanned in a video clip, the details of torn and decomposed publicity posters give new life to paper lacerations. I think in the lacerated advertisings is recognizable the “unwrapped” city, self-destroying in the messages, self-regenerating and self-reproducing in new visual elements, often contradictory, dissonant, discordant, but still surprisingly vital.

Some “Lacer/Actions” artworks were published in a booklet-portfolio: Pics of torn (publi)city”.  In July 2010, thirty thousand people visited my show “The Four Elements of LaceR/Actions” during the three days exhibition at Oriocenter (Milano Bergamo Orio Airport, Italy). My artworks are also taking part of experiences about sensorial and emotional perceptions (sinestesys). In October 2010 I participated to “Parallax AF” in London (La Galleria, Royal Opera Arcade). One of my artwork will be display in the new Collection of Contemporary Art opening next April 27 in Marche region (Italy). My recent “Color of an Apocalypse” Show took place in the enchanting XIII Century Rocca Aldobrandesca, an incredibile fortress in Tuscany (Monte Amiata, Piancastagnaio, Siena, Italy) from September 2012 to January 2013.
